Opposition leader: Government's decision to dissolve FSA command is void

Syrian opposition leader Friday said the Interim Government's decision to dissolve the Supreme Military Council is void since it’s out of the government powers.

Both Ahmad Jarba and SMC commanders have denounced Ahmad Tumah’s decision to dissolve the Council and to refer its members to the administration and financial committee, Zaman Alwasl reporter said.

Early Friday, a statement issued by SMC described the decision as "a grave breach of law", saying it is not the prerogative of the interim government.

Prime Minister also ordered the dismissal of the Joint Chief of Staff Brigadier General Abdul Ilah al-Bashir as he commissioned Brigadier General Adel Ismail to run the Staff affairs.

Tu’mah called the revolutionary forces and rebel groups at the battlefields to form a military defence council within one month.

Khaled Khoja, an opposition figure, said there’s a 'conflict of interest' within the interim government.

"The dismissal comes over doubts that FSA leader brigadier al-Bashir intends to overthrow the current government by forming a revolutionary government,  what pushed Tu’ma to take an action,'' Khoja added.

The rift between Western-backed opposition and moderate FSA has escalated as the armed Islamist groups have become the most powerful force in the three-year-old uprising against Bashar al-Assad, who has long portrayed himself as the defender of a secular order in Syria.

Syria's conflict, now in its fourth year, has killed at least 162,000 people, according to activists. Nearly three million Syrians have fled the country.
