Stories of Martyrs died under torture continue in Syria after more than three years of century’s disaster, most of them were not handed to their parents to bury them in dignity. Moreover, many painful stories are told about funerals turned up to become massacres.
Fayadd Abo ras, a 22 years old , year four student in Aleppo University, was arrested 9 months ago before Adha Eid. He was transfered to Palestine Security branch to receive the toughest torture resulted in his death. One of detainees in the same branch happened to meet with Saeed, a man from Fayad’s village to tell his story of torture and painful death. It was difficult for Saeed to tell his parents, and had had no choice but to tell the martyr’s brother who was a defected sergeant from the Syria Army. Despite the difficult task, he had to tell his father and mother the truth.
Ahmad Jalol, another painful story about death under torture with no trace of the body. He suffered from cancer, and was arrested at Qotaifa barrier in his way to receive his chemotherapy in Damascus, after days of torture he died, leaving his only daughter who was born after long journey of treatment, to spend her life as an orphan.
Ahmad Kaddah, a 30 years old, simple poor worker was arrested in his way to Lebanon to work there to help in supporting his parents, wife and son. After his disappearance, his parents thought he was killed in his way, but later, his ID card was sent to his parents, confirming his death in prison, with no trace of his body.
All mentioned story are for martyrs from Alhbait, a small village in Idlib’s countryside, their stories are only minor example of the shocking stories of people dies under torture in Syrian regime’s prisons, and all their parents received was some words confirming their deaths or IDs.
Few months ago, a report based on the evidence of a defector and produced by three former international prosecutors, confirmed that Syrian regime has systematically killed and tortured about 11,000 detainees.
The report, examined thousands of pictures said to have been smuggled out by a former military police photographer.
The report shows explicit evidence of starvation, strangulation, beatings and shooting.
The defector, presented about 55,000 images of 11,000 dead prisoners since the start of the uprising in Syria in March 2011.
The defector claims that the victims all died in captivity before being taken to a military hospital to be photographed.
“The pictures show over a period of years the systematic murder of detainees by starvation, by torture, the gouging out of eyes, the hideous beating of people, the mutilation of bodies” the report said.
According to the report, the defector claimed that there could be as many as 50 bodies a day to photograph which required 15 to 30 minutes of work per corpse. He added that the purpose of the photos was firstly to be able to issue death certificates, to claim that the victims had died in hospital, and secondly to confirm to the regime that executions had been carried out. The bodies would then be buried in rural areas.
The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay condemns the widespread and systematic use of torture in detention facilities in Syria. A report issued by her office finds detainees are routinely tortured by the Syrian regime.
The report describes conditions of detention in some Syrian government-run facilities as absolutely horrific, with dozens of people crammed into a tiny cell, forced to use one hole as a toilet. U.N. investigators say some detainees are subjected to physical, mental and sexual torture, which often leaves the victims permanently scarred. Many of them die.
