ISTANBUL (Zaman Alwasl)- Istanbul is empty of its native residents these days of Breakfast Eid, however walking in its street gives the impression that it is a Syrian city. Arabic language with different accents of Syrian people fills the place where hardly the native language can be heard.
Mahmoud, a worker in a sweet shop explained that Istanbul’s residents have left the city during the Eid holiday, either to their parents or villages, while other went for a break on the sea to enjoy the nice weather. “only me and an Iraqi guy stayed in the shop while others left to spend holiday away from Istanbul” he adds.
According to Mahmoud: “Syrians were the people who bought sweets most, however they bought less amount than they used to do in their country, maybe because there is no mutual visits on Eid like in Syria and the prices of sweet relatively high, for example the price for a one-person's portion on Konafa worth $5, which is relatively unaffordable for a significant number of Syrians in Turkey”
Mahmood said that most Syrians tried to make their children happy and feel the Eid atmosphere by bringing new clothes and sweets, but they feel that their happiness not complete.
