Germany: Syrian refugee becomes member in Foreigners' Advisory Council in Kassel city

Hassan Suleiman Al-Khater, Syrian refugee in Germany, has won a membership in the Foreigners' Advisory Council, Ausländerbeirat, in the city of Kassel.

Al-Khater, originally from the city of Al-Mayadin in the eastern Deir Ezzor province, moved to Germany as a refugee in mid-2015 and completed all language stages up to DSH at the University of Kassel.

Then he moved to study a master’s degree in international law at the University of Göttingen, as the University of Kassel does not include a law school, and due to his remarkable activity in serving refugees and defending their rights, he was nominated as a representative of foreigners in the municipality of Kassel.

Al-Khater, 31, told Zaman al-Wasl that the elections for the Foreigners' Advisory Council, or Ausländerbeirat, take place once every 5 years, and it is the first time that a Syrian refugee runs for these elections, adding that he ran for these elections in early 2021, and won a seat in the advisory council, which is a bridge between the German government in the city Kassel and aliens are in town.

Ausländerbeirat represents all nationalities of the world in the city, except for German, and it is the link in all parts of the country.

Al-Khater, who studied Law at the Euphrates University,  seeks to improve the conditions of refugees within the framework of his work as a consultant in the council and what are the most prominent obstacles facing them like integration with German society.
