"Salvation Govt" issues general amnesty in Idlib

The Salvation Government, the civilian governing body of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, issued a general amnesty for all perpetrators of crimes in its areas of control in northern Idlib province on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Justice Minister, Judge Anas Mansour al-Suleiman, in video statement, said, "We are in the Ministry of Justice, and for the blessed month of Ramadan, which has come as a generous guest to us and our people are living the eleventh anniversary of the blessed Syrian revolution, and in an effort to relieve our people and bring joy and pleasure to the hearts of our people." We have worked, under the guidance of the Prime Minister, to issue a general amnesty decree for perpetrators of crimes.

The decree entered into force as soon as it was issued, he added.

Northwestern Syria is home to 3.5 million refugees but is controlled by the Turkish-backed opposition factions and by Islamist HTS fighters.

The Syrian revolution that turned into a bloody conflict has claimed 500,000 lives and has displaced 13,2 million people since it erupted in March 2011 with the brutal repression of anti-regime protests.
