Russian training raids north and south of Idlib

Russian warplanes on Friday night carried out several air strikes using high-explosive air-to-air missiles, targeting several areas in northern Idlib province.

Military sources in the Al-Fateh Al-Mubeen operations room told Zaman al-Wasl that Russian warplanes took off from the Hmeimim air base in coastal Latakia region, carried out six air strikes using "air-to-air" missiles over populated areas in the town of Maarat Misrin and in the "Jabal Al-Arbaeen and in the towns of "Ihsem" and "Benin"  southeastern of the Jabal Al-Zawiya area in the south of Idlib.

No casualties were reported.

The sources confirmed that the raids were as part of training operations for new pilots, or new aircraft, but these exercises are always carried out by Russia over populated areas.

The areas of Al-Ghab Plain, northwest of Hama province, Jabal Al-Zawiya, south of Idlib Governorate, and the villages and towns of the western countryside of Aleppo, located within the so-called “fourth de-escalation zone” are witnessing daily artillery and missile shelling, which prevents the return of the displaced to their homes.

Northwestern Syria is home to 3.5 million refugees but is controlled by the Turkish-backed opposition factions and by Islamist HTS fighters.

The Syrian conflict - which led to the loss of at least 500,000 lives and displaced more than 13,2 million people -  began in 2011 after the Assad regime brutally cracked down on peaceful pro-democracy protests.
