High prices deprive children of Eid clothes

The clothing and shoe stores across Syria are witnessing an increase in its prices due to the economic conditions in the war-torn country with the advent of Eid al-Fitr.

The Action Group for the Palestinians of Syria said the Palestinian refugees complained about the high prices of clothes in general and those related to children in particular.

The AGPS stressed that the refugees consider that this holiday will be the worst holidays that they will pass due to their circumstances and their living and material conditions, pointing to the collapse of their economic conditions due to the widening gap between income and high expenses during the holy month of Ramadan.

The prices of children's clothing ranged between 100,000 and 150,000 pounds, while the prices of clothes for young people of both sexes exceeded the limits of 300,000 pounds, which constituted economic burdens on large families and prevented them from buying Eid clothing for their children.

One of the women says that the current economic conditions forced us not to buy the Eid clothing for our children and will deprive them of the joy of Eid, as they used to buy new clothes and toys.

The group pointed out that the Palestinian refugees in Syria are living very difficult living conditions due to the deteriorating economic conditions and lack of resources, not to mention the spread of unemployment and the decrease in the volume of UNRWA aid.

The regime-controlled areas suffer from a stark rise in the prices of basic materials and food commodities, amid government promises to fight monopoly.

The Syrian revolution that turned into a bloody conflict has claimed 500,000 lives and has displaced 13,2 million people since it erupted in March 2011 with the brutal repression of anti-regime protests.
