The 4-year-old Loujain Ahmed Nassif, was buried in the Chania cemetery on the island of Rhodes on Friday after she died of hunger and thirst on the boat that was carrying her with dozens of migrants off the Greek coast.
The baby's family, of Homs city, left the refugee camp of Muhammarah Al-Akari in Lebanon, along with those who left the northern shore on an illegal immigration boat.
The boat, which was carrying 24 men, 12 women, 20 children and 4 infants, broke down dozens of miles off the Greek shores.
The passengers were evacuated to one of the Greek islands after a journey of agony that lasted for days.
"Loujain died in the ambulance that was taking her and her mother to a Greek hospital, and the mother's health condition was described as very critical.
The "Ashtar Immigration and Asylum" group reported that a technical failure occurred in the boat's engine in the Greek waters near the island of Crete.
The passengers remained for four days, day and night, begging and appealing to the Greek guard, but they did not respond. The waves drifted their boat towards Crete.
Many of the refugees in the boat also had complications in their kidneys and livers due to drinking from the sea water.
One of the giant marine cargo ships passing at sea pressured the Greek authorities to rescue them. The refugees were evacuated from the sea from their broken boat, and the girl, Loujain, was taken with her mother to a Greek hospital, but she died in the ambulance.
The Greek Coast Guard was not satisfied with that, but they arrested seven refugees from the boat and charged them with smuggling and being responsible for driving this boat.
