A local relief team stated that the price of a standard food basket sufficient to feed a family of five for one month, rose to about $88 (1,620 Turkish liras), an increase of 220 liras from last July.
The "Syria Response Coordinator Team" confirmed in a statement that this consumes 48% of a day laborer's salary for an entire month, after inflation rates in the region rose to 69.2% on an annual basis compared to last year.
The relief group explained that the prices of bread in the northern countryside of Aleppo increased by 250%, bringing the price of a bundle of bread to 5 Turkish liras, which is the same price in Idlib governorate and its countryside.
It stressed that the percentage of camps that suffer from food insecurity has risen to 82% of the IDP camps, and 93.7% of them have difficulties in securing bread.
The number of civilians in need of humanitarian aid reached 3.6 million, an increase of 14% compared to last year, and the percentage is expected to rise by 17% until the end of this year, as a result of many variables, most notably the upward changes in the exchange rate and the stability of food prices at a high level, according to the team.
Hundreds of thousands of civilians are seeking today to reduce the number of daily meals and quantities of food to obtain basic necessities, in a new step towards the abyss and to increase the gaps in financing the humanitarian response in Syria, where the number of families that reduced the number of basic meals to 68%, while it reached within camps to 91%.
The group appealed to the humanitarian organizations operating in northern Syria to work on securing basic necessities for the displaced, especially with the advent of winter, and the complete inability of civilians to reconcile between securing heating supplies and securing food.
The Syrian conflict - which led to the loss of at least 500,000 lives and displaced more than 13,2 million people - began in 2011 after the Assad regime brutally cracked down on peaceful pro-democracy protests.
