24 missing in "Tartus boat"; families accuse Assad regime

A group of families appealed to the missing youth in the "death boat" that sank off Arwad Island in Tartus province on September 20 to reveal the fate of their sons, accusing the Assad regime and its intelligence of being responsible for their disappearance, especially since the missing are only young people who have physical abilities and are good at swimming.

In a statement signed by the families of 24 missing men from the Tartus vessel, the families said that they are asking the concerned authorities to reveal the fate of their young sons missing, noting that the missing are only young people with high physical abilities and who can swim well, and the number of the missing are 24.

The families confirmed that the disappearance of young men, without girls, children and the elderly, left them with many question marks and exclamations, in a clear reference to accusing "Assad's intelligence" of involvement in their arrest or disappearance.

In their statement, the families indicated that they are sure that their missing sons are not among the "drowned", otherwise their bodies would have appeared, like the rest of the groups that were present in the boat, including girls, children and the elderly.

The families of the missing youth wondered whether the sea kept the bodies of young men, but not the girls, women, children and the elderly, hinting at the role of "Assad's intelligence" in concealing the fate of their sons or their arbitrary detention.

The families indicated that on October 1, they appealed to the "Governor of Latakia" of the Assad regime to help them find out the fate of their children, who contented himself with sending two books, one to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address the "Syrian Chargé d'Affairs in Lebanon" and the second to the "Head of the Military Security Committee" in the coast Syrians without receiving any response reassuring their hearts, according to the statement.

The families also renewed their demand for the "Assad regime" to reveal the fate of their young children, noting that they were subjected to extortion from those who claim to know their children's fate in exchange for sums of money, according to their statement.

The statement bore the signature of the families of the "24 missing persons", accompanied by their detailed names, residential addresses and phone numbers, and most of them are from Latakia Governorate, Assad's birthplace.

On September 30, the young Lebanese man, "Yahya Hablas," accused the Assad regime's military security in Tartous of being involved in the disappearance of his brother, "Fouad Hablas," after he appeared in pictures and video recordings, and they were assured of his health before he disappeared.

The Lebanese citizen indicated that his brother, the surviving drowning, "Fouad Hablas", was transferred to the Tartous Military Hospital and remained in the custody of the Military Security Branch in the city, and they do not know anything about him, calling for his fate to be revealed.

Assad regime involved in arresting the survivors

The "Working Group for the Palestinians of Syria" accused the security services of the Assad regime of arresting a number of Syrian and Palestinian youths who survived the sinking of the "Tartous boat" last month.

The "group" said that the regime's security arrested the young men on the pretext that they are "wanted by the security forces and some of them are wanted for compulsory service", without being able to reach their names.

100 victims of Tartus boat sinking

The latest statistics of the "Syrian regime" announced that 100 people whose bodies were recovered from the sea drowned off the coast of Tartus, while the number of survivors reached 20.

The boat, which set off from the shore of Minieh in Lebanon, is heading towards Europe before drowning between 120 and 150 people, including Syrians, Lebanese and Palestinians.
