Along with destitution, winter mounts the displaced suffering in northern Syria

The Syria Response Coordinator Team said that thousands of Syrian families in northwest Syria are facing the beginning of winter amid poverty and destitution, amid expectations that temperatures will drop dramatically in the coming months.

The local relief group said in a statement that "hundreds of thousands of civilians are receiving winter in the camps after they were forced to flee the military operations in northwest Syria."

Many displaced families live in tents and unfinished and equipped buildings, and they are unable to provide the simplest means of warmth.

The response team stressed that the current camps for the internally displaced suffer from overcrowding, while finding shelter in the existing houses has become limited, and even finding a place in an unfinished building has become almost impossible, as the number of camps in northwestern Syria has increased significantly during the previous period. The number of camps reached 1,633 camps, inhabited by 1,811,578 people, including 514 random camps, inhabited by 311,782 people.

The majority of the displaced are women and children who, along with other internally displaced persons, remain in dire need of basic assistance and protection.

The main needs include food, shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene and access to education, and there is an urgent need at the present time to improve the structure of the shelter, at a time when the humanitarian situation is constantly deteriorating and many people have had to flee several times, leaving behind their possessions in light of the limited places to be They can stay there.

The relief group says that there are a large number of displaced children who do not go to school. “Schools either do not have the capacity to host additional students, or children are forced to work to secure additional resources for families in the area, especially with the level of poverty in the area reaching record levels. It exceeded 87.34 percent and a daily rise in food prices, which exceeded 150 percent in recent months.

The response coordinators team appealed to all regional and international actors to work to help the civilian population in northwestern Syria by increasing humanitarian operations in the area to face the upcoming winter crisis and urgently work to secure the needs of civilians.
