The US-backed Kurdish-led forces arrested hundreds in northern and eastern Syria, with the aim of compulsory conscription, local sources told Zaman al-Wasl.
On Sunday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) raided a machine factory in the town of Gharanij in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, and arrested 15 young men who were working inside it, with the aim of taking them to recruitment camps near the town.
The sources confirmed that seven SDF military checkpoints in the city of Raqqa and its countryside arrested approximately 70 young men from the city of Raqqa and its countryside on Sunday, with the aim of taking them to compulsory conscription camps, while many young men remained at home for fear of being arrested.
During the past 48 hours, SDF forces also arrested more than 240 young men from the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, Al-Hasakah, and Raqqa governorates, all for the purpose of compulsory recruitment, including minors as young as 15-year-old, amid a state of dissatisfaction on the part of the people, especially since most recruitment operations take place within areas with an Arab majority as the semi-autonomous Kurdish administration controls areas in north and northeast Syria.
The SDF, which includes Kurdish, Arab, Armenian and other fighters, seized swathes of Deir Ezzor province following successive US-backed campaigns against IS.
