The demonstrators raised victory slogans on the first Friday after the fall of the ousted Assad regime, as the number of demonstrators in Al-Asi Square in the center of Hama reached about half a million Syrians.
Mustafa Al-Hamawi told Zaman Al-Wasl, "Today is a great victory day, today is the holiday of the free Syrians, and who would have believed that the Syrians would celebrate the fall of a regime that ruled for 54 years? Therefore, this day must be immortalized in history."
Al-Hamawi added, "I, my wife and children are participating in the victory demonstration in Al-Asi Square with my relatives and neighbors who were previously displaced by Assad to different parts of Syria, but the victory and the demise of the ousted Bashar brought us together and united the word of the Syrians and their joy."
Abdullah Al-Saadi from Homs tells Zaman Al-Wasl, "Today, we return to the square where the spark of the revolution in Homs governorate started, victorious and with our heads held high. However, there is something in Homs that makes you cry, which is that the martyred guardian of the revolution, Abdul Basit Al-Sarout, was not with us alive on this day, but we will immortalize his memory so that he will be a symbol of the Syrian revolution."
Imad Al-Arabini tells Zaman Al-Wasl, "Today, I lived the dream that I had hoped would come true, which is the exit of hundreds of thousands of Syrians from the Umayyad Mosque towards the Umayyad Square to celebrate the fall of the greatest tyrant of all time."
Al-Arabini adds, "Today, Syrians from Homs, Hama, Aleppo and Idlib, which had the honor of receiving us throughout the periods of displacement of Syrians over the course of 14 years, are participating with us in the Umayyad Square. However, today we are one people, our celebration is one, and our goal is one, which is to build a new Syria without tyrants and despots."
