Rescue agency destroys 500 unexploded ordnance in a month

The Syrian Civil Defense Organization confirmed that the remnants of war pose a great danger that haunts Syrians and their future for many years, and turns their daily lives into fields of postponed death.

Hundreds of thousands of landmines, cluster bombs, and unexploded ordnance are still scattered in cities, towns, and farms, as a deadly legacy left by years of violent bombing and brutal attacks by the Assad regime and its allies.

The rescue agency stressed that its teams are working to remove this deadly danger, through survey and removal operations, and we seek to protect civilians and ensure their safety in their homes, farms, and their paths of return to their villages. Our efforts stem from our belief in the right of Syrians to a safe life and a future free of risks.

From November 26 to December 12, the teams specialized in removing war remnants in the Syrian Civil Defense carried out 203 removal operations, in which 491 unexploded ordnance were removed and destroyed, in addition to documenting 80 minefields and points (including anti-tank and anti-personnel mines). In parallel with these works, the teams provided 82 awareness sessions for residents before they returned to the areas from which they were displaced.

The Civil Defence reminded Syrians of the dangers of approaching strange objects or unexploded ordnance, and we advise avoiding areas that have recently witnessed clashes or contain military sites and minefields. In the event that any suspicious object is found, please inform the Syrian Civil Defense teams immediately and do not attempt to approach it or move it.
