About 13,000 Syrians return from Jordan since Assad fall

The Jordanian Ministry of Interior confirmed that 12,800 Syrians have returned to their country since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 2024, until Sunday, December 22.

Al-Mamlaka TV quoted a source in the Ministry of Interior as saying that among those returning to their country were 1,309 Syrian refugees, noting that the majority of those returning were not classified as refugees.

The source expected more Syrians to return to their country in the coming days, noting that Jordan supports the voluntary return of Syrians to their country, noting that the Jaber crossing is currently the only outlet for Syrians to cross to their country.

On December 6, 2024, Jordan decided to close the Jaber border crossing opposite the Syrian Nassib crossing due to the security conditions surrounding southern Syria.

On Monday, the Ministry of Interior revealed the categories allowed to enter and leave through the Jaber border crossing linking Jordan and Syria.

According to a letter from the Minister of Interior, which Al Mamlaka reviewed, the Ministry of Interior has identified categories of Jordanians and Syrians who are allowed to enter and leave through the Jaber border crossing into Syrian territory.

The Ministry of Interior stipulated that entry and exit must be in accordance with the established travel procedures and that there are no security obstacles, while continuing to allow categories that have previously been approved to use the Jaber border crossing.

According to the letter, the Ministry of Interior allowed Jordanian investors who have commercial records with a certain capital, Jordanian employees of commercial banks operating in Syria, and Jordanian businessmen who have membership cards in the Syrian Chambers of Industry and Commerce.

It also allowed Jordanian students studying in Syrian universities provided that they have the necessary university documents, and official Jordanian delegations, including economic delegations.

As for Syrians, the Ministry of Interior allowed entry and exit through the Jaber crossing for investors and their families who hold Jordanian commercial records with a certain capital, in addition to allowing Syrians who have acquired Jordanian citizenship, whether with a Jordanian or Syrian passport.

The Interior Ministry's decision aims to allow these groups to keep up with developments and for the purpose of supporting the national and Syrian economy and enhancing trade movement at this stage to enhance stability in Syria and resume normal life there, by facilitating travel between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Syrian Arab Republic through the Jaber border crossing, according to the channel.
