The deadline for fighters loyal to the ousted Assad regime to hand over their weapons has expired and anyone who has not handed over their weapons will be considered "outlaws" as of Saturday, Al-Watan newspaper reported, citing security sources.
In the context of these developments, the Military Operations Department and the Ministry of Interior launched a large-scale security operation on Saturday aimed at eliminating the remnants of the ousted regime across Syria.
A large-scale combing operation was launched in the Damsarkho area near the coastal city of Latakia, after residents reported the presence of armed elements affiliated with the remnants of Assad's militias.
The operation resulted in the arrest of a number of wanted and suspected individuals, in addition to the confiscation of quantities of weapons and ammunition.
Sources from the Military Operations Department confirmed to Zaman al-Wasl that “the campaign is continuing to completely cleanse the area of the remnants of the ousted regime of Bashar al-Assad and ensure the return of security and stability to the residents,” noting that “the authorities have called on citizens to report any suspicious movements,” stressing “the importance of cooperation between the residents and the security forces in achieving the objectives of the operation.”
