SOS Children's Villages in Syria affirmed its continued commitment to supporting children without family care, especially during the transitional phase that the country is going through.
The association is closely following the issue raised on social media about the children of the detained Dr. Rania Al-Abbasi, and confirms its deep sympathy with this humanitarian cause, and dedicates its efforts to contributing to revealing their fate by all possible means.
Given the importance of the case, and the lack of information regarding the children mentioned in the association's records to date, SOS Children's Villages Syria, in consultation with SOS Children's Villages International, submitted a summons to the Public Prosecution Office in Damascus on January 13, 2025, demanding the opening of an official investigation into the disappearance of the children and assistance in revealing their fate. As a result, the Public Prosecution Office directed the opening of investigations inside and outside the association.
The association has placed all its documents and papers at the disposal of the judicial authorities, confirming its full cooperation and the cooperation of its employees with the relevant parties to reach the facts. This action reflects the association’s firm commitment to reuniting families and ensuring that every effort is made to uncover the truth and ensure the best interests of children.
The association expressed its deep concern about the issue of children who have been separated from their families in recent times. Since the beginning of raising this issue on social media, the association has been quick to cooperate with the Ministry of Social Affairs in Syria, and has shared all relevant information regarding children who were referred to its care by the previous authorities without proper documentation. It also called for an urgent investigation, and expressed its full readiness to cooperate with any authorized official or legal body.
SOS Children’s Villages Syria hopes that the judicial authorities will be able to determine the fate of the children and return them to their families as soon as possible. As always, all decisions and steps taken by the association are based on its deep concern for the best interests of children and ensuring their rights.
