Hamas reaffirms commitment to ceasefire deal, vows to probe Israeli claims on Bibas’ remains

Hamas announced on Friday that it will thoroughly investigate Israel’s claims regarding the body of Israeli captive Shiri Bibas, which was handed over on Thursday, reaffirming its commitment to the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

“We have received Israel’s claims through our mediators and will examine them with utmost seriousness before announcing the results clearly,” Hamas said in a statement.

The Palestinian resistance group noted the possibility of an error or mix-up in the bodies, potentially resulting from Israeli bombardment of the site where Bibas’ family was located alongside other Palestinians.

Hamas emphasized its full commitment to all agreements, asserting, “We have demonstrated this commitment through our conduct in recent days. We have no interest in withholding any bodies.”

The resistance group also stressed the necessity of proceeding with the full implementation of the agreement’s provisions at all levels.

Hamas also expressed surprise at the uproar caused by Israel following its DNA test claims and rejected threats made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The group believed that “Netanyahu’s threats were intended to bolster his image” amid internal Israeli political disputes.

Hamas also called on Israel to return the body that it claims belongs to a Palestinian woman killed during Israeli airstrikes.

Earlier on Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Hamas violated the terms of a prisoner exchange deal by handing over the body of an unidentified woman from Gaza instead of that of hostage Shiri Bibas.

Hamas said it had handed over the bodies of Bibas and her two children, Ariel and Kfir, as well as Oded Lifshitz, on Thursday under a Gaza ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement.

Hamas said the Israeli captives were killed in indiscriminate airstrikes by Tel Aviv during the 15-month genocide in the enclave.
