The Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees, Kelly Clements, confirmed that the situation in Syria presents opportunities, but it also faces challenges, as refugees continue to return from neighboring countries, but they are also internally displaced within Syria.
This came in a special interview with CNN Economic, on the sidelines of the Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum, which was held in the Saudi capital a few days before the month of Ramadan.
Clements stressed that these people need significant support in the coming weeks and months, and some in the long term, and this depends on the condition of their homes, whether small repairs are required or some homes have been completely destroyed during the past 14 years of conflict.
The Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees said that refugees suffer from a scarcity of resources, and they only have some basics, and they are unable to register their children in schools, obtain health services, find a way to earn a living and obtain support, and there are several ways in which the international community can help local authorities to support returning families, according to her.
Clements is counting on the support of the international community in this area, noting the urgent need for billions of dollars to help them.
