Intelligence chief: Ousted Assad regime behind Syrian coast attacks

The head of the Syrian General Intelligence Service stated on Friday that some individuals who took advantage of the difficult circumstances the country went through planned many of the crimes that took place on the Syrian coast.

Anas Khattab said in a thread on the X platform that these individuals "inherited a completely corrupt regime and began to sabotage the image of a future Syria that had become prosperous, in order to inflict damage that would harm the fate of the country."

Khattab added in his statements that initial investigations indicate that some former military and security leaders in the Assad regime were behind planning these attacks, explaining that these figures have a relationship with external parties wanted by Syrian justice.

Commenting on the current situation, Khattab stressed that these terrorist attempts came 90 days after the liberation of the capital Damascus, where some people thought they could obstruct the path of progress in the country, despite the strong popular will that aspires to build a better future for Syria.

He continued by saying: "They launched their cowardly operations that claimed the lives of dozens of our loyal men in the army, security and police."

Khattab also appreciated the position of Syrian citizens in various governorates who showed their great support for the Ministries of Interior and Defense, especially after the demonstrations that took place in several cities, which rejected the attacks on the security forces. Khattab addressed a message to those involved in trying to destabilize Syria, saying: "Your hands are stained with the blood of our men, but the path before you is clear: either surrender yourselves and your weapons to the security forces, or face the consequences of your actions, and we are determined to protect the security of our homeland and restore stability to Syria."
