Israel strikes military airports in Hama, Homs

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that an Israeli airstrike targeted the vicinity of the Scientific Research Building in the Barzeh neighborhood of Damascus on Wednesday, in addition to targeting Hama Military Airport.

Al Jazeera's correspondent in Damascus said that Israeli aircraft targeted Hama Military Airport with more than 10 airstrikes.

According to informed sources, the raids targeted an air defense system inside Hama Military Airport, located south of the city of Hama in central Syria.

These raids resulted in numerous explosions inside the airport and a massive fire.

Israel's Channel 12 also reported that among the targets bombed was the T4 Military Airport in the Homs countryside.

Israel fears that Turkey will deploy drones at this base, which would cover the entire Levant in terms of Turkish military capabilities. He added that Israel also fears, according to Israeli media, that Turkey will deploy air defenses at the T-4 base, which Israel has bombed numerous times in the past.

Israel has been launching airstrikes on Syria on an almost daily basis for months, killing civilians and destroying Syrian military sites, vehicles, and ammunition.

Israel launched airstrikes on Syria for years during the rule of ousted President Bashar al-Assad, targeting what it described as military facilities linked to Iran and arms transfers from Tehran to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights. Taking advantage of the new situation in the country following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, Israel occupied the Syrian buffer zone and declared the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement between the two sides.

Although the new Syrian administration, headed by Ahmed al-Sharaa, has not threatened Israel in any way, Tel Aviv has launched almost daily airstrikes on Syria for months, killing civilians and destroying Syrian military sites, vehicles, and ammunition.

On December 8, 2024, Syrian factions completed their control of the country, ending 61 years of Baath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family control, including 24 years during which Bashar al-Assad was president.
