The southern province of Daraa witnessed large crowds participating in the funerals of the martyrs of the Israeli aggression that targeted several sites in the province on Wednesday evening, in a new escalation that is increasing tensions in the region.
According to images published by the Daraa Governorate channel on Telegram, thousands of mourners, including Daraa Governor Anwar al-Zoubi, flocked to the city of Nawa, where the funerals of the victims who fell as a result of the Israeli attack were held.
These developments came after Israeli warplanes launched more than 11 airstrikes targeting the Syrian capital, Damascus, and the cities of Hama and Homs. Meanwhile, Israeli forces carried out a military incursion into Daraa, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries.

Local sources reported that Israeli raids targeted the Al-Jubailiya Dam Forest area between the city of Nawa and the town of Tasil, west of Daraa, at dawn on Thursday. These raids resulted in the deaths of nine civilians and the injury of 23 others, according to a statement published by the Daraa Governorate on Telegram.
In addition to the ground incursions, Israeli forces shelled the slopes of Tal al-Jumu' near Nawa with three artillery shells, while Israeli aircraft launched an airstrike on the vicinity of the Scientific Research Building in the Masaken Barzeh neighborhood of Damascus. More than 10 raids targeted Hama Military Airport and its surroundings, according to the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
Israel launched airstrikes on Syria for years during the rule of ousted President Bashar al-Assad, targeting what it described as military facilities linked to Iran and arms transfers from Tehran to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights. Taking advantage of the new situation in the country following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, Israel occupied the Syrian buffer zone and declared the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement between the two sides.
Although the new Syrian administration, headed by Ahmed al-Sharaa, has not threatened Israel in any way, Tel Aviv has launched almost daily airstrikes on Syria for months, killing civilians and destroying Syrian military sites, vehicles, and ammunition.
On December 8, 2024, Syrian factions completed their control of the country, ending 61 years of Baath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family control, including 24 years during which Bashar al-Assad was president.
