The Jordanian government revealed on Tuesday the details of a "chaos and sabotage" cell that was arrested after a four-year security investigation, confirming that its members were planning to carry out acts that would threaten national security and undermine the Kingdom's sovereignty.
Jordanian Minister of State for Communications Mohammad Momani said that what happened represents "a real threat to Jordanian national security and is linked to a deviant project," noting that those involved belong to unlicensed groups.
He confirmed that security forces arrested 16 individuals involved in four separate cases, including the manufacture of short-range missiles, the storage of highly explosive materials, the possession of automatic weapons, and a project to manufacture drones.
Details of the operation
The Minister of State for Communications revealed that the first cell, consisting of three members, was working to transport and store highly explosive materials and automatic weapons smuggled from abroad, while the fourth member of the group worked to hide a Katyusha rocket in the Marj al-Hamam area, ready for use.
He continued that the second case involves three individuals who began manufacturing missiles using locally produced and imported tools.
He explained that this cell established two warehouses in Amman and Zarqa Governorate to store and manufacture missiles, one of which was fortified with concrete and contained secret rooms. He emphasized that these individuals received training and funding from abroad.
As for the third case, the Minister of State for Communications added, its members were tasked with manufacturing drones, seeking expertise from external parties. They were able to produce a prototype of the aircraft.
Momani revealed that in the fourth case, members were tasked with nominating and recruiting individuals and training them outside the country.
The Jordanian government confirmed that the individuals arrested in the four cases have been referred to the State Security Court for necessary legal action, emphasizing that the security services will continue their efforts to "preserve Jordan's security and stability and confront anyone who dares to undermine its sovereignty."
