Trump said on Tuesday from Riyadh that he decided to lift sanctions on Syria after discussing the matter with the Saudi Crown Prince.

He added that the decision to lift sanctions on Syria was to give Syrians a new opportunity.

He also addressed the Syrians, saying, "Let us see something special for your future," noting that the United States has taken the first step towards normalizing relations with Syria, after a period of great misery.

He announced that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet with his Syrian counterpart soon.

He also noted that there is a new government in Syria that hopes to succeed in achieving stability.

A Key Step for Economic Recovery

Since assuming power following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, the new authorities in Damascus have called on the international community to lift sanctions imposed on key sectors and institutions in the country since the outbreak of the conflict in 2011. They considered this a key step for economic recovery and the beginning of the reconstruction phase.

Some parties, including the United States and the European Union, have eased some sanctions and made further steps conditional on testing the Syrian authorities' performance in several areas, such as combating "terrorism" and protecting human and minority rights.
