Trump affirms his support for Syria during a historic meeting with al-Sharaa.

US President Donald Trump affirmed to his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed al-Shara, his country's commitment to supporting Syria at "this pivotal stage," during an unprecedented meeting between the two leaders in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was also present, along with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan via phone call.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said in an official statement that the "historic" meeting was attended by the foreign ministers of Syria, Saudi Arabia, and the United States, and focused on lifting sanctions on Syria and supporting the recovery and reconstruction process.

The statement indicated that Prince Mohammed bin Salman stressed the importance of lifting sanctions to achieve regional stability, while President Trump announced the United States' commitment to standing by Syria, emphasizing Washington's desire to support development and economic efforts in the country.

For his part, President Ahmed al-Shara expressed his deep gratitude for the regional and international support, stressing that Syria "will confidently move forward into the future." He thanked President Trump, the Saudi Crown Prince, and the Turkish President for their support for the US decision.

The meeting addressed ways to strengthen the Syrian-American partnership in the fight against terrorism and confronting non-state actors, especially non-Syrian armed groups, including ISIS, which undermine regional stability.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry revealed an upcoming meeting between Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and his US counterpart, Marco Rubio, to continue bilateral coordination and consolidate the understandings reached during the summit.

Earlier, during his participation in the "Saudi-US Investment Forum 2025," Trump announced that he would order the lifting of sanctions imposed on Syria "to give its people an opportunity for growth and development," adding that the decision came after consultations with the Saudi Crown Prince and the Turkish President.
