The northern city of Aleppo witnessed a prisoner exchange between the Syrian government and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), after overcoming negotiating obstacles that had previously led to the postponement of the process.
According to Zaman al-Wasl sources, the Syrian government released eight female prisoners from the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) along with 170 SDF prisoners, while the SDF released 250 Syrian National Army prisoners held in its prisons.
The exchange took place amid tight security measures at the handover sites inside Aleppo.
This step is part of a comprehensive agreement between the two parties, which includes several stages of the prisoner exchange. Previous stages were implemented over the past few months, while the current stage stalled in late May due to disagreements over the lists and implementation mechanisms.
