The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) stressed on Monday the importance of respecting the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic, reaffirming its absolute rejection of any foreign interference in Syria's internal affairs.
In a statement, the GCC explained that Syria's security and stability represent a fundamental pillar of regional security and stability, noting the Council's welcome of the agreement to integrate all civilian and military institutions in northeastern Syria into Syrian state institutions.
The GCC also welcomed US President Donald Trump's response to Saudi Arabia's request to lift sanctions on Syria, a move the statement described as serving the interests of the Syrian people and alleviating their suffering.
The statement also condemned the repeated Israeli attacks, violations, and assaults on Syrian territory, emphasizing the Arab identity of the Golan Heights and its status as occupied Syrian territory.
The Council commended the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar in settling Syria's arrears to the World Bank Group, considering this practical support for Syria's return to international financial institutions.
The statement concluded by affirming support for the efforts of the Arab League and sister nations to assist the Syrian people, as well as the efforts of the United Nations and its Special Envoy to reach a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis.
