Documents reveal sample of National Defense method of disposing of detainees' bodies

Documents issued by the National Defense Forces in Damascus, which have been reviewed, reveal a systematic and horrific mechanism for concealing the bodies of a large number of detainees during the years of the Syrian revolution. Bodies were transported with secret numbers instead of names to Harasta Military Hospital, in preparation for mass burial in the Najha cemetery in the Damascus countryside.

According to the documents, which specifically cover the years 2013 and 2014, the National Defense Center in Damascus, which was under the direct supervision of commander Fadi Saqr, was the starting point for the body deliveries.

Signed delivery receipts indicate that more than 1,720 bodies were delivered from this center during these two years alone, indicating that the total number of victims may be much higher. Security branches or military police were not included here, and only in Damascus.

The documents show that the transfer process was carried out under the supervision of "specialized leaders," with the goal of "collecting the largest number of bodies for mass burial."

The bodies were treated as mere numbers, deliberately erasing the victims' identities and preventing any future identification by their families.

The delivery and receipts bear the signatures of officials from both sides. From the National Defense Forces, the documents were signed by Ghadir Ibrahim, Malek Ali Saqour, and Ali Adla. From Harasta Military Hospital, which served as the temporary collection station, the receipts were signed by Major Zainab Darwish, Sergeant Ali al-Debs, and Assistants Ali Ali and Saleh Ibrahim.
