Syrian Airlines suspended all flights on Saturday evening until further notice, effective Sunday, due to "security tensions in the region" and the closure of Syrian airspace to civil aviation.
The state-owned airline said in a statement carried by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the decision comes "in the interest of the safety of passengers and flight crews, and in coordination with the relevant civil aviation authorities."
Syrian Airlines called on all passengers to follow developments through official channels or contact reservation offices to inquire about the status of their flights and adjust travel times if necessary.
This development follows an ongoing military escalation between Iran and Israel. Iran resumed its second round of missile attacks on sites inside the occupied territories at dawn on Sunday, in response to previous Israeli attacks targeting nuclear and military facilities inside Iran.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation in Syria had decided earlier on Saturday to close Syrian airspace to civil aviation until Sunday morning, due to what it described as "tense security conditions and mutual shelling in the region."
