Syria, Germany agree to establish joint economic coordination council

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced an agreement between Syria and Germany to establish a joint economic coordination council on Tuesday, aiming to enhance bilateral cooperation and open new horizons for trade exchange between the two countries.

The agreement came during a phone call between Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, according to an official statement issued by the Syrian Foreign Ministry.

During the call, the two sides discussed a number of pressing regional issues, as well as bilateral relations between Damascus and Berlin. Minister al-Shaibani congratulated his German counterpart on assuming his new duties, stressing Syria's aspiration to strengthen diplomatic cooperation with Germany in various fields, especially in light of current international changes.

The Syrian minister also expressed his country's appreciation for bilateral relations, stressing the importance of developing them in line with the aspirations of both peoples.

Discussing regional issues, al-Shaibani condemned the Israeli incursions into Quneitra Governorate, accusing Israel of committing "clear violations of Syrian sovereignty" by demolishing homes and uprooting trees in southern Syria.

For his part, the German minister emphasized the importance of finding peaceful diplomatic solutions that contribute to achieving regional stability, emphasizing his country's commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at calming the situation in the Middle East.
