Arab-Turkish statement welcome Syria’s vow to prosecute Sweida violations

A joint Gulf-Arab-Turkish statement welcomed Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s commitment to holding those responsible for recent abuses in Syria’s southern province of Sweida to account.

The statement rejected all forms of foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs and reaffirmed support for the country’s security, unity, stability, and sovereignty. It welcomed the agreement reached to resolve the crisis in Sweida and stressed the need for its full implementation in order to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity, protect civilians, and end the bloodshed.

Over the past two days, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, Bahrain, Turkey, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Egypt held intensive talks on developments in Syria. They reaffirmed a united position in support of the Syrian government’s efforts to rebuild the country and restore its stability, unity, and sovereignty.

The Gulf-Arab-Turkish statement reiterated praise for President al-Sharaa’s pledge to investigate and prosecute all those responsible for violations against civilians in Sweida. It also expressed support for efforts to restore law and order in the province and across all of Syria, while rejecting violence, sectarianism, incitement, and hate speech.

The statement strongly condemned Israel’s repeated attacks on Syria, calling them blatant violations of international law and an assault on Syria’s sovereignty that threaten its stability, territorial integrity, and reconstruction efforts aimed at meeting the aspirations of the Syrian people.

The joint statement emphasized that Syria’s security and stability are essential for broader regional stability and must remain a shared priority. It urged the international community to support Syria’s reconstruction efforts and called on the UN Security Council to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by ensuring Israel’s full withdrawal from occupied Syrian territory, halting its hostilities and interference in Syria, and implementing Resolution 2766 and the 1974 disengagement agreement.
