Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa received on Sunday the final report of the National Fact-Finding and Investigation Committee into the events of last March that occurred on the Syrian coast following security tensions following an attack by remnants of the regime of ousted President Bashar al-Assad.
The statement, carried by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), explained that the committee was established to ensure the country proceeds on a path that does not include any violations or "attempts to obscure the truth." The statement indicated that the presidency had requested the committee to hold a conference to clarify the results of its work, if it deemed appropriate.
The Syrian government formed the committee after a week of security tensions in the Syrian coast on March 6, following coordinated attacks by remnants of the regime of ousted President Bashar al-Assad against security patrols and checkpoints, resulting in deaths and injuries.
Later, the investigation committee announced that it had conducted 10 visits to Baniyas, hearing more than 300 testimonies, noting that it had recorded 95 testimonies regarding the events in the city of Latakia, in accordance with legal standards.
The committee also stated that it received more than 30 reports regarding the incidents, inspected nine sites, heard testimonies from security, military, and civilian authorities in Latakia, and entered all areas where the incidents occurred.
This was followed by an announcement by the Syrian presidency on April 10 that President al-Sharaa had extended the mandate of the investigation committee into the coastal events for a non-extensionable period of three months.
