Zaman al-Wasl obtained a copy of an official document issued by the Military Field Court in Damascus, confirming the execution of Talal Yahya Odeh, born in 1984 and originally from the village of Rayyan in Homs.
The document, dated February 12, 2016, shows that Odeh was convicted of "crimes described in the Anti-Terrorism Law." The sentence was carried out by hanging at dawn on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, in the courtyard of the First Military Prison in Damascus, known as "Saydnaya."
According to the document, the execution was carried out in the presence of an official committee comprising representatives from the Southern Region Command, the Military Police, the Public Prosecution, and a forensic doctor.
The document indicates that the committee verified the detainee's identity before carrying out the sentence and then handed over his body to medical services after the execution.
According to the document, the detainee is accused of "premeditated murder" and "terrorist acts resulting in the death of a human being," common charges the former Syrian regime routinely leveled against thousands of detainees. Human rights reports confirm that confessions are often extracted under torture in such cases.
