The Syrian Ministry of Justice announced on Friday the cancellation of prosecutions that included more than 287 thousand cases dating back to the ousted regime's rule.
The governmental communication official at the ministry, Mohamed Samer Al -Abd, told SANA that the decision came within the framework of "addressing the effects of the exceptional decisions that restricted the movement of citizens" during that stage.
He explained that the decision stipulated the cancellation of police publications and research notes issued by the military judiciary during the era of the previous regime, in order to stop the procedures for prosecution and prevent the travel related to it.
Al -Abd indicated that specialized committees studied the relevant files and submitted their proposals to the Supreme Judicial Council.
The canceled issues include charges related to "demonstrating, practicing the exchange profession, facilitating escape, possession of weapons, and trafficking in subsidized commodities", while serious criminal cases associated with personal rights were excluded, provided that they are subsequently subject to study according to legal principles.
