Security forces in central Homs province on Saturday exhumed two mass graves in the towns of Al-Mukharram and Talkalakh, containing the remains of unidentified persons, the state-run news agency reported.
The graves were found in the village of Abu Hakfa al-Shamali, located in the al-Mukhram area in the northeastern Homs countryside, following a report from a shepherd. The graves were found to contain the remains of approximately 16 people, distributed within six caves.
Mustafa Muhammad, the checkpoint official in the al-Mukhram area, explained that patrols were formed to head to the site and begin excavation work, while civil defense and forensic teams began identifying the victims. He added that the area was previously under the control of the National Defense militia, affiliated with the former regime.
In a related development, Muhammad al-Khalid, the media official for the Internal Security Directorate in Homs, announced the discovery of another mass grave in the Talkalakh area in the western Homs countryside, noting that the relevant authorities have begun inspection and investigations to determine the identities of the victims and the circumstances of the incident.
