Minister Al-Shaar discusses enhancing economic and technological cooperation in Washington

Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal al-Shaar discussed ways to enhance economic and technological cooperation between Syria and the United States, open new horizons for American investments in the Syrian market, and ease trade restrictions imposed on his country on Friday in Washington, D.C.

Minister al-Shaar held two separate meetings: the first with US Congressmen Ibrahim Hamadeh and Joe Wilson, and a number of representatives of American research and economic institutions. The second meeting was held with officials from the US Department of Commerce, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

During the first meeting, the two sides discussed mechanisms to support economic projects in Syria and enhance the participation of American companies in the reconstruction process. They also discussed building new economic and technological cooperation that would contribute to technology transfer, encourage direct investment, and improve the business environment in Syria, away from traditional aid.

Minister al-Shaar emphasized that establishing new economic partnerships represents a strategic step toward enhancing national economic growth, contributing to reconstruction efforts, and achieving long-term sustainable development.

During his meeting with the US Department of Commerce, Al-Shaar discussed easing trade and customs restrictions and encouraging direct US investment in Syrian productive sectors. He emphasized that improving the business environment and opening up sustainable cooperation with international partners are priorities for the Ministry of Economy and Industry as part of its plan to support the national economy.

SANA reported that Minister Al-Shaar's visit to the United States, which began on Wednesday, includes a series of meetings with international economic and research institutions. This comes as part of the Syrian government's efforts to establish economic relations based on shared interests, paving the way for Syria's return to its active role in the regional and international economies.
