12 million Captagon pills seized in Dhumair, smuggling network leader arrested: Interior Ministry

The Anti-Narcotics Branch in Rural Damascus, in cooperation with the Internal Security Directorate in the Dhumair city, east of Damascus, seized 12 million Captagon pills and arrested the head of the smuggling network.

The Ministry of Interior's Telegram channel quoted the Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department, Brigadier General Khaled Eid, as saying "In light of reliable information received from one of our trusted intelligence sources, the Anti-Narcotics Branch in Rural Damascus, in cooperation with the Internal Security Directorate in the Dhumair area, began precise monitoring and tracking of a drug smuggling network that was seeking to smuggle large quantities of narcotics out of the country."

"After close and continuous monitoring, a successful qualitative operation was carried out, resulting in the seizure of approximately 12 million Captagon pills in the Dhumair area and the arrest of the network leader, Eid added.

The competent authorities are still pursuing the remaining individuals involved in preparation for their arrest and bringing them before the competent judiciary.

Dhumair, the last town in Qalamoun overlooking the Syrian Badia desert, is a strategic region for smuggling operations. The Qalamoun Mountains connect Lebanon's Bekaa Valley with the Sweida desert where most of the smuggling of Fenethylline drugs cross into Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

The Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department explained that the seized quantity was confiscated for destruction, and the arrested individual was referred to the competent judicial authorities for necessary legal action.

Eid concluded that this operation is part of the Anti-Narcotics Department's resolute approach to combating smuggling, drying up its sources, and prosecuting dealers.
