The Anti-Narcotics Department announced the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics across the Syrian-Lebanese border. A security operation resulted in the arrest of those involved and the seizure of the smuggled drugs.
The Ministry of Interior stated in a press release that the operation followed reliable intelligence regarding an attempt to smuggle drugs from Lebanon into Syria. A well-planned ambush led to the arrest of two individuals, identified as "A.M." and "S.Sh.," while they were attempting to smuggle the narcotics.
According to the statement, 400,000 Captagon pills were seized. The pills were meticulously concealed inside two vehicles, with 200,000 pills in each vehicle. The entire quantity was confiscated, and the suspects were referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete the legal proceedings against them.
The Ministry affirmed that the relevant authorities in Syria are continuing their intensive efforts to combat the scourge of drugs. It noted that in recent months, they have seized and destroyed large quantities of narcotics, which the former regime relied on producing and distributing locally, as well as smuggling them to neighboring countries and regional and international markets.
