Jordanian Airstrikes Target Drug and Weapons Smugglers in Syria's Suwayda

The Jordanian Armed Forces neutralized drug and weapons smugglers on the kingdom's northern border, according to the Jordanian News Agency (Petra). The operations targeted factories and facilities used by smuggling groups in Syria's Suwayda governorate as launching points towards Jordanian territory.

Petra reported that the destruction of the smuggling sites was based on precise intelligence and in coordination with regional partners.

In turn, the Syrian local news site "Suwayda 24" reported that the Jordanian airstrikes targeted sites linked to drug smuggling in the southern countryside.

According to Suwayda 24's sources, the raids included the village of Al-Sha'ab in the eastern part of the governorate, where drug smuggling networks are concentrated, in addition to other areas in the southern countryside. The sources noted that explosions were still clearly audible in the area, indicating the ongoing aerial operations.

Among the key targets was a raid on a farm believed to be used for storing drugs. The farm is owned by a known smuggler in the region named Emad Alloum, from the village of Malh. The farm is located on the road between the villages of Khazmah and Malh in the southern countryside.

These strikes are part of Jordan's ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling, particularly Captagon pills, from Syrian territory. Amman has previously carried out similar operations in border areas. No immediate official comment was issued from the Jordanian or Syrian side regarding these raids, and no precise information about the extent of human or material losses has been made available so far.

It is noted that the border area between Syria and Jordan has witnessed increasing tension due to smuggling activities, with escalating clashes and airstrikes in recent years.
