Former Prime Minister Hussein Arnous and fellow ministers referred to judiciary

Private sources told Zaman al-Wasl that reports circulating about the arrest of former Prime Minister Hussein Arnous, who served under the ousted regime, have been denied. They confirmed that legal proceedings against him and other officials have recently begun.

The sources revealed that the Central Financial Control Authority has completed its extensive investigation into the "fertilizer plant" case, one of the largest corruption scandals that plagued the industry and energy sectors. Based on the investigation's findings, all those involved, including Hussein Arnous, have been referred to the competent judiciary.

The referrals were not limited to the Prime Minister's office but also included prominent figures in previous regime governments, among them:

* Samer Khalil: Former Minister of Economy.

* Ziad Sabbagh: Former Minister of Industry.

* Bassam Toumeh and Firas Qaddour: Former Ministers of Oil.

In a related development, the judicial referrals also included Amin Daghri, the former Director of the Syrian Gas Company, and Samir Asad, the former Director General of the General Establishment for Geology. Sources explained that the two men had managed to escape from Adra Central Prison on the day of its liberation, and the search for them continues in order to bring them to justice.

The sources emphasized to Zaman al-Wasl that investigations into this case and others remain open, amid expectations that the scope of accountability will be broadened to include additional figures, and that shocking details will be revealed regarding the extent of the systematic corruption and squandering of public funds that has plagued the Syrian treasury over the past years.
