Syria and Jordan affirmed on Sunday their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and advancing a comprehensive strategic partnership, following the second session of the Higher Coordination Council held in the Jordanian capital.
The session was co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani and Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, with the participation of 30 ministers from both countries.
The council was received by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II. Al-Shaibani conveyed greetings from President Ahmad al-Sharaa, with the Jordanian monarch requesting his greetings be relayed in return.
Both sides stressed their determination to sustain coordination and consultation across sectors, translating the directives of the leaderships of the two countries into a broad strategic partnership.
The council reviewed outcomes of high-level preparatory meetings held a day earlier, welcoming agreements and understandings aimed at strengthening cooperation across all sectors.
In the diplomatic domain, the two sides agreed to organize a “Diplomatic Engagement Week” between their foreign ministries, featuring joint dialogues, workshops, and knowledge exchange initiatives, alongside enhanced coordination between diplomatic missions abroad.
On international cooperation, the council agreed to institutionalize a joint mechanism for engagement with international and regional donors to support institutional development, capacity-building in Syria’s public sector, and priority development projects.
The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation in human resource development and specialized training across multiple sectors.
In transport, both countries reaffirmed continued cooperation across all modes—air, land, sea, and rail—and discussed measures to facilitate land transport, aiming to restore direct transport operations.
In the energy sector, the council welcomed the gas supply agreement signed on January 26 and agreed on mechanisms to resume natural gas deliveries to Syria within two days of the session’s conclusion. Progress in rehabilitating the electricity interconnection line inside Syria was also reviewed, alongside discussions on supplying electricity from Jordan’s grid based on Syrian needs.
Syria expressed appreciation for Jordan’s continued support for reconstruction efforts, emphasizing the importance of preserving Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The council underscored the need for full implementation of the roadmap to stabilize southern Syria, particularly in Sweida, which was announced jointly by Syria, Jordan, and the United States and endorsed by multiple international and regional actors.
The two sides warned against escalating Israeli unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank, stressing the need to halt actions undermining the two-state solution and rejecting attempts to impose new realities on the ground.
The council concluded by reaffirming full solidarity in addressing shared challenges, supporting Arab national security, and enhancing joint Arab action. It was agreed that the next session of the council will be held in Damascus at a date to be determined.
