Floods in Hasakah uproot refugees' makeshift shelters

AL HASAKAH (Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 830 Syrian displaced families in al-Hasakah province north Syria are expected to face harsh Winter as floods uprooted their makeshift shelters amid lack of aid and basic needs, Locals told Zaman al-Wasl on Sunday.

A prominent figure in Shammar tribe said the families, which fled the ongoing clashes between Islamic State militant group and Kurdish factions, have no shelter and no food, demanding an urgent response to escape the looming humanitarian crisis.

 “Despite fighting stopped in some villages, people are not able to go back to their homes, as they almost completely destroyed by fighting and air strikes” added.

The 'Sheikh' mentioned that people scattered over nearly 14 villages, some lived in temporary shelters, or at their relatives' houses, who started to lose their ability or sources to keep supporting, while others lived in schools.

An activist mentioned that 830 the families were displaced from 25 villages in southern countryside of Yarubiyah town at the Syrian-Turkish borders, because they became battlefield between Islamic state militants group and Kurdish factions, beside the airstrikes of Syrian regime and the international alliance.
