Yahya Diab to replace Al-Ahmad as Syrian diplomatic representative in Egypt: Zaman Al-Wasl sources

An informed source revealed to Zaman al-Wasl that Yahya Diab has been nominated as Syria's new ambassador to Cairo.

This nomination comes in response to Egyptian reservations about the previous nominee, Mohammed Taha al-Ahmad, a matter previously reported by Zaman al-Wasl. The Syrian side is keen to build strong relations with Egypt, which the source described as "the mother of the world," an indispensable partner.

The Syrian source explained that the diplomatic mission's nominees include several individuals without Islamist backgrounds. Ambassador Yahya Diab is a human rights lawyer and former diplomat who served in embassies in Rome, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, and Belgrade. He previously headed the union committee at the Syrian Foreign Ministry.

The mission also includes Judge Jumaa al-Dabis al-Anzi, who previously served as the head of the Public Prosecution in Raqqa before defecting in 2012. He currently works on the Ministry's Arab Affairs Committee, a fact also previously reported by Zaman al-Wasl.

In the administrative context, the nominations include Wafaa Bitar, an information engineer who completed her studies in law and progressed as an administrative employee in the diplomatic corps. She also previously held an external mission within the Syrian mission in one of the Latin American countries.
