Damascus, Sept. 24 (SANA) Syrian clothing exports more than doubled in the first eight months of 2026 from a year earlier, the Economy and Industry Ministry said, as hundreds of local manufacturers gathered in Damascus for a trade exhibition aimed at expanding sales and business partnerships.
Clothing exports rose 118% between January and August compared with the same period in 2025, Deputy Economy and Industry Minister Basil Abdel-Hanan said at the opening of the Syriatex autumn-winter 2026-2027 exhibition.
Abdel-Hanan said the figures pointed to a strong recovery in the clothing sector.
The exhibition at the Damascus Fairgrounds brings together 236 Syrian companies from Damascus, Damascus countryside, Aleppo, Homs, Idlib, Hama and Lattakia.
Companies are showcasing women’s, men’s and children’s clothing as well as knitwear, fabrics, cotton products, accessories and other textile industry supplies.
Focus on exports and partnerships
Mohammad Ayman al-Mawlawi, head of the Damascus and Damascus Countryside Chamber of Industry, said Syrian manufacturers were seeking to develop new business partnerships and expand economic cooperation.
He said Syria has a long-established textile and garment industry and that manufacturers’ experience and product quality could support further growth in the sector.
Imad Taha al-Qassem, head of the Aleppo Chamber of Industry, said all products displayed at Syriatex were locally made, with the exhibition designed to promote Syrian manufacturing.
The event is organized by the Damascus and Damascus Countryside and Aleppo chambers of industry under the patronage of the Ministry of Economy and Industry.
Syriatex runs through Sept. 26 and is open daily from noon to 9 p.m.
