More than 4,000 displaced families return to Ras al-Ain under voluntary return program

Hasakah, Nov. 5 (SANA) A new group of approximately 470 displaced families departed Hasakah on Thursday for their homes in Ras al-Ain and its countryside, bringing the total number of families returning under a government-organized voluntary return program to more than 4,000.

The families left the al-Tweinah and al-Talae camps in Hasakah city as part of the second group of the seventh return convoy.

A total of 4,028 displaced families have returned to their areas of origin through seven convoys, representing approximately 32.2% of the 12,500 families targeted under the voluntary return program.

The first group of the seventh convoy, comprising 372 families, departed on Wednesday. The convoy is reported to include 847 families displaced from Ras al-Ain and its countryside who had been living in Hasakah city.

Hasakah Deputy Governor Ahmad al-Hilali said the relevant authorities had taken measures to ensure the safe return of displaced families to their villages and homes.

He said coordination among the agencies organizing the convoys was helping facilitate the movement of returning families and ensure their arrival in their areas of origin.

Al-Hilali added that government efforts were continuing to accelerate the return process, alongside coordination with international and humanitarian organizations to provide assistance and meet the needs of returning households.

The support is intended to help families resettle and rebuild their lives in their villages and towns, he said.

The voluntary return program, launched last August, aims to facilitate the return of approximately 12,500 families displaced from Ras al-Ain and its countryside.

According to figures released under the program, the first convoy carried 413 families, followed by 700 in the second, 520 in the third, 518 in the fourth, 385 in the fifth and 645 in the sixth.

With the seventh convoy bringing the reported cumulative total to 4,028 families, approximately 8,472 families remain within the program’s overall target.
