Iraqi army kills 15 ISIL militants in Iraq's capital


At least 15 militants from the Islamic State for Iraq and the Levant were killed in Baghdad on Saturday, Iraqi army sources said.

In other attacks, eight security officials were killed in the Iraqi capital, Iraqi security officials said on Saturday.

Major Gen.Ziya Kazim, an Al-Jazira and Al-Badia Operations commander linked to the Iraqi army, told The Anadolu Agency that seven ISIL vehicles were also destroyed in Ramadi city in the Iraqi army's air operations.

In a separate incidents, eight soldiers died, and 30 others, including police, soldiers and civilians were wounded in suicide, armed attacks and armed clashes in at-Taji and other regions of the capital, according to the security sources.

The Parliament rapporteur Niyazi Mimaroglu told the AA correspondent that the Iraqi parliament has set up a commission to investigate how ISIL was able to capture Mosul, Iraq's second largest city. 

Since mid-June, fighting in Iraq has pitted the Iraqi army and Kurdish peshmerga forces against ISIL militants, who have taken control of Mosul, Iraq's second largest city. 

ISIL is currently in control of large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria.

The U.S. is leading an international coalition, which includes France, Germany, and Saudi Arabia, and has carried out numerous airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq and Syria.

According to the U.N., an estimated 1.8 million citizens have been internally displaced this year throughout Iraq.
