Head of the National Coalition of Syrian Opposition and Revolutionary Forces, Ahmad Jarba , will visit Egypt on Monday to discuss recently tightened entry regulations for Syrians traveling to the country.
Under the new regulations, Syrians wanting to enter Egypt need to get a security approval besides obtaining a visa. The move came after media reports claimed that Islamist Syrians had taken part in protests backing ousted President Mohamed Morsi in Cairo and had been involved in clashes with his opponents.
During his visit, Jarba will discuss with senior Egyptian officials ways to backtrack on these regulations.
Jarba will also hold talks with Arab League chief Nabil al- Arabi and Egypt's newly installed foreign minister Nabil Fahmy on the latest developments in Syria.
During a conference last month, then President Morsi announced that Egypt was cutting off relations with Syria and would support the Syrian opposition.
The conference, which was attended by a large number of Islamist figures and Muslim clerics, declared Jihad (holy war) against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
On Saturday, Fahmy expressed intentions to improve relations with Syria, a reverse of Morsi's position. "Our relations will be with countries and peoples, not with leaders or parties," Fahmy stressed, noting that Egypt has no intention of waging a Jihad in Syria.
