(Zaman Al Wasl)- Formation of the “Syrian Revolution Leadership Council”, as part of “Hang on” initiative, was officially announced yesterday. Counselor Qais al-Sheikh, was agreeably designated as the head of the council, Ahmed al-Ragheb the deputy, and Naji Nahar, the secretary.
Dr. Abdel Min’em Zain, the spokesman of the initiative had announced the formation of the council. In his speech, he explained difficulties faced the initiative to reach to its recent situation.
In his talk, Qais al-Sheikh, the Head of the council declared his willingness to cooperate with all, from different sectarian and political orientations, to build Syria for all.
An executive council was elected headed by Sobhi Rifa’ee, representative of the Southern region. 3 more committees were elected as well, where Mohamed Aloush headed the political committee, Mohamed al-Haj the head of the military one, while Rami al-Habib headed the civil committee.
The general leadership was distributed on 6 regions with 19 members from the Northern, 12 members from the Southern, 8 for the coastal, 7 for the Eastern, 15 for Damascus and its countryside, while 12 seats went to the Middle region, according to Zaman al-Wasl’s sources.
Sobhi Rifa’ee confirmed to Zaman Al-wasl that the Syrian Revolution Leadership Council would not disagree with anybody unless they refused to work for the benefit of the country. “We cooperate with anyone works from inside Syrian and for Syria, as we are not the only body works for the country”
Rifa’ee explained that “Hang On” initiative mandated each faction willed to join the council, to provide 100 fighters with coverage of their salaries and foods.
In regard to the reluctance by some battalions to join the council, the head of the Executive council thought that siege prevented some from attending, or others were committed to external agenda, and cannot decide.
Moti’a al-Batin, a member of the National Coalition, explained that the council gave Syrians a new hope for reuniting, and it would give extra power and confidence in the military and on-field situation.
However, he mentioned that till now no obvious cooperation between the council and National Coalition.
Representative of al-Islam Army felt confident that the Council would survive, as it is a body uniting more than 100 fighting factions.
The Head of the Initiative, Hasan al-Daghim, explained to Zaman al-Wasl that dividing and siege the country regions by the regime, was a real difficulty faced the council’s formation, but that was tackled by modern communication methods.
Al-Daghim revealed that atmosphere during the conference was comfortable and positive. He considered designation of Qais al-Sheikh agreeably, a historical change in the Syrian revolution.
Many attended the conference for announcing formation of the council, among them, Mostafa al-Sabagh, and Adnan al-Arour.
