(Zaman Al Wasl)- Key rebel groups are pressing advances in the northern countryside of Aleppo, capturing many military posts amid reports of heavy losses amid regime army and its loyal militias.
Zaman al-Wasl reporter said Hazm Movement on Friday took control of new territory controlled by Bashar al-Assad’s forces in Handarat Camp, leaving tens killed and wounded.
Last Thursday, the Islamic Front wrestled control of six military posts from the Assad army, killing 20 soldiers.
“Factions from the Islamic Front attacked Assad’s forces through missile strikes and locally made projectiles in the Ardul Melah region,” the Islamic Front’s media spokesman told Anadolu Agency.
The Islamic Front is a coalition of a number of Islamist groups, including the Ahrar Al-Sham movement, and is an ally of the Al-Nusra Front, which itself has ties with Al-Qaeda.
Opposition forces began protests in March 2011 to topple President Bashar Al-Assad, a struggle that turned into a civil war in July of that year after regime forces violently suppressed the demonstrations. (With AA)
