Syrian Coalition seeks to purge financial corruption

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syria's opposition group the National Coalition issued new procedures related to the financial supervision and administrative control for its institutions and embassies, Zaman al-Wasl source said.

The Coalition’s general commission agreed last week to form an independent audit committee (members not belong to the coalition) to do the inventory for all headquarters, institutions and embassies of the West-backed group since its founding.

The committee to submit its report within two months after its formation, the source said.

The bold decision came by Khaled Khoja, the young leader of NC, who carried out a series of inner-reforms that includes financial matters and the fight against corruption.

Two ministers and one ambassador were sacked by Khoja over managerial and financial issues.

Also, Khoja has expressed big desire to rebuild a new network of international relations since the inner-rifts and mismanagement of NC resulted in changes of the international community stand over Syrian conflict and in decline of the financial support for Syrian refugees.

The coalition, who was founded in Qatar in November 2012, has been recognized as the Syrian people’s legitimate representative by the EU and the Group of Friends of the Syrian People.

The Syrian conflict began as a peaceful movement that morphed into a civil war that has killed more than 220,000 people and forced half the population to flee their homes.
